Kokomo Urban Outreach introduces our new Neighborhood Cafes. Neighborhood Cafes will may be found in most of the Neighborhoods of Hope.
The original purpose was to be sure that no child went to bed hunger on Sunday night. Hungry children don’t sleep well and aren't ready to learn on Monday. In 2009 we are preparing to expand on that purpose.
There are three focus areas in a neighborhood Cafés.
· Cuisine— is another name for food. We will continue to provide meals to anyone who desires a meal. We intend to serve them restaurant style with all of the amenities and service of a nice restaurant. No one will leave a meal hungry.
· Conversation—- meals will center around conversations. Sometimes there will be conversation starters on placemats or on the center of the table. It is our hope that conversations around the table will lead toward the development of Community.
Community—- will develop over time as neighbors get to know one another. Networking will naturally happen, allowing neighbors to care for one another.
Neighborhood meals are hot, nutritious and free.
Neighborhood meals can be held about anywhere, churches, apartment community rooms, any public space that is free and available once a week.
In the summer Cafés may switch to cook-outs
which becomes weekly block Parties. Reaching even more people and building more relationships.
